The Xylophone

Originally it is believed the xylophone came from Indonesia. Brought over to the west several hundred years ago. It belongs to the percussion group and is constructed of narrowing in length wood blocks. Modern instruments may be constructed of other composites. As the blocks narrow the note gets higher. The instrument is aligned so that the bars are in a chromatic scale like a traditional piano. The notes have less sustain than it's twin a similar instrument the marimba.
