Very early Hofner V3000

A
beautiful example of an very early Hofner V3000, with
the rare set neck!
The wood used in the making of the guitar is of the
exceptionally high quality one would expect of a Hofner.
Two unusual aspects are the set neck/body joint and
the angled-back headstock, which reflect Hofner's
traditional acoustic guitar heritage. It has an abundance
of triple dot fretboard markers. A truss rod is fitted,
adjustable by a nut located under a small plate on
the headstock.
There are four rhombohedra (commonly known as diamond)
pick ups fitted which are controlled by the rotary
switch on the upper bout. The four choices available
are each individual pickup or all three on together.
There is some slight cosmetic damage (see photos),
but nothing significant.
While these look like a humbucking pickups, they are
actually a single coil unit fitted with two magnets.
One line of polepieces are adjustable and visible.
There is another line of polepieces hidden under the
cover. Because of the construction of this Type 510
pickup, it should theoretically be possible to change
it to a twin coil humbucker by simply adding another
coil to the existing second set of polepieces. i.e.
converting it into a Type 510 Super.
I had the pick up rewound a couple of years ago..
All electrics work fine but, as it is over 40 years
old could probably do with a good overhaul!
The original Hofner "toast rack" or "diamond"
pickups - which were only made in 1960 and 1961 -
sound incredibly good and the guitar has a superb
low action. |
