Guitar
Progress
Goals
Below
is a great technique for organising your practice and playing
so you can be disciplined in your playing in order to progress
quickly. Have your guitar playing goals as SMART goals.
The S stands for specific, so do not be vague about the
outcome the more specific you can be the more effective
will be the outcome.
The M stands for measurable so if you need to do a certain
task test it at regular intervals to ensure it is done say
for example you will know the G major scale all over the
neck within three weeks time then test your progress each
week to make sure you are on track. The A is achievable
make sure you will be actually able to do the task. The
R is for realistic, there is no point in setting goals for
your playing improvement unless they can be met. So to say
you will able to do pitched harmonics at tempo is fantasy
as a beginner. Time for the T so by being time ruled you
can achieved a goal by a certain pre-set time. This will
keep you playing focused.

Practice
time
Try
and discipline your playing to at least once a day. Make sure you
do not leave it for days on end so as to avoid the routine of one
step forward and two steps back all the time. Split your time into
sections so that might be twenty minutes on learning chords, twenty
minutes practicing scales, twenty minutes working out finger patterns
and twenty minutes playing free form. Develop a life style so playing
is part of your daily routine and is a habit for life. |
